Moombaki Wines

Moombaki Wines

To my mind, a classic example of style over substance, unfortunately I don’t have a lot good to say about this winery. I don’t know if they were just having a bad day or if they are always like that but it’s always a bit sad when you leave with the impression that the people behind the counter think that they are doing you a favour by letting you taste their wine.

Had there been a long line of people waiting for service, perhaps I could have understood the apparent desire to get us out the door as soon as possible. As it was however, ours was the only car in the car park so who knows, maybe she just had somewhere else better to be.

As for the wines, well the whites were about average for the region. There was nothing wrong with the flavours but at the same time they didn’t stand out.

Overall the reds didn’t fare much better. Again, at best I’d rate them as average for the region in terms of quality and flavour but when you factor in their price, I’d give them a miss as there are much better alternatives nearby.  They do have a 2005 reserve vintage which they seemed very proud of but they were not allowing tastings and based on their other wines and the fact that it is $55 a bottle we thought it too much of a risk.

If you want details on the individual wines you can visit their website listed below. It is one of the better sites for wineries in the region. I’m left to think that perhaps if they put as much effort into their customer service as they have to their website, perhaps we’d have left with a better impression.

Final thought: By all means visit if you’re driving past anyway but I really can’t say that it’s worth going out of your way for.
